Come join our class! We are learning many exciting aspects about our digital cameras. We will be studying composition and elements of visual design & personal expression and production. We will accomplish this by learning the history, techniques, creativity, and business of photography. Projects include technical and esthetic photo assignments, the use of computers to edit and enhance photos, and the variety of ways to share photos.
The objective for designing creative aspects of a Yearbook is to bring as much creativity to the process as possible and to hopefully complete quality heirloom publication. Creativity can begin to take over after students have an understanding of the basics of design, have mastered the software and workflow. The key to working on creative elements of a yearbook is to work within the theme of the publication. All of the creative work done by the yearbook teams is accomplished using photography and original art in combination with Adobe Systems software. We have found that these tools offer unlimited choices and amazing results and that our main challenge is to limit our choices to remain within our theme.
Assignments
We will work on using the rule of thirds and our lighting techniques, we are adding using different perspectives. What does a small child see from their height? How does the appeal of a picture change when I take close ups?
Students will have the option to extend their digital talents in creating a website portfolio to show off their special photographs.
The students will pick a theme and cover design while creating the yearbook ladder. Classroom photos will be assigned so that over the next few weeks we will have snapshots of the different classes at our school for our yearbook as well as learning how to design the pages in the yearbook.
Top Picks
Students...I need you Photos!!! Please turn them in!
Under the Top Picks tab, the students have chosen their favorite photo that they have taken this month. They want you to vote your favorite and if you would like, offer positive feedback and tips to make their shots even better. The feedback only comes to me so I will be screening all comments before they are passed on to the students. Names will not be attached to the photos on this page so we can gather your unbiased opinions. Thank you for your help!
Yearbooks
Yearbooks are off to a good start. The cost of the yearbook is $15.00. It was full color and 40 pages! We discussed if we stay with the same publishing company or find a less expensive one, and the unanimous vote was to stay with the same publisher due to the much higher quality. Please go to the Yearbook tab and order your copy today!
If you have taken photos of school activities, feel free to submit them to me on disc. The kids would love to include your photos also!
Student Portfolios
Portfolios are starting to be published so check out our Student Portfolio tab and view your child's site!
The classes' ongoing assignment is to produce a website portfolio of their own work. This is so the students may show you the best of their photography skills. This is a password protected page.
